Aquatic therapy, also known as water therapy or hydrotherapy, is a proven, low-impact method for rehabilitation and pain relief. At iOrtho, we are proud to be the only provider of aquatic therapy and endless pool rehabilitation on Staten Island. This specialized form of physical therapy is ideal for patients recovering from surgery, managing arthritis, or seeking relief from chronic pain and inflammation.
In our state-of-the-art aquatic therapy facility, sessions take place in a temperature-controlled endless pool. This environment allows patients to perform exercises with reduced joint stress, using buoyancy to support movement that may be difficult on land. Our underwater treadmill offers a safe, joint-friendly option for walking and light jogging, while barbells, wrist, and ankle weights are used to increase strength and endurance.
Every aquatic therapy session at iOrtho is private and lasts up to 60 minutes, ensuring personalized attention. Activities may include swimming, kickboarding against a current, or soft tissue massage with air therapy jets.
We also incorporate the Nordic Cycle, a therapeutic method alternating warm and cool water exposure. This “hot/cold plunge” technique supports:
- Increased circulation for accelerated tissue healing
- Reduced swelling and scar tissue formation
- Decreased chronic inflammation
- Improved mood and pain relief through natural endorphin release
- Enhanced immune function and detoxification
- Faster recovery from soft tissue injuries
- Rejuvenated skin, especially beneficial after surgery
Aquatic therapy at iOrtho offers a safe, effective, and innovative approach to recovery. Contact us today to learn more or to schedule your private session. Most major insurances are accepted.
