AQUATIC THERAPY

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy at iOrtho

Aquatic therapy, also known as water therapy or hydrotherapy, is a specialized form of physical therapy conducted in a pool under the supervision of trained professionals. At iOrtho, we take pride in being the community’s exclusive provider of aquatic therapy and endless pool rehabilitation. This unique approach enables patients to perform rehabilitative exercises in a water environment, allowing for movements that might be challenging on land due to pain or weakness.

In our facility, rehabilitative exercises take place in an endless pool, providing a controlled aquatic environment. The underwater treadmill offers low-impact alternatives for joint-friendly exercise, while resistance exercises using barbells, wrists, and ankle weights enhance strength and endurance.

Patients can engage in a variety of activities, including swimming, kick-boarding against a current, and utilizing air therapy jets for soft tissue massage. Each aquatic therapy session is private, lasting up to 60 minutes, ensuring personalized attention and focused rehabilitation.

Cold/Warm Aquatic Therapy – Nordic Cycle:

Our facility embraces the age-old Nordic tradition of cold/warm aqua therapy, a practice recognized for its positive impact on health in Nordic cultures for thousands of years.

The “hot/cold plunge” technique, involving a 20-minute warm water session followed by a cool shower, triggers physiological responses that support circulation, tissue healing, and overall well-being. Our Nordic Cycle method utilizes cold and warm stimuli to constrict and dilate blood vessels, promoting increased circulation through tissues. This approach is ideal for post-surgery or injury recovery.

Benefits of Hydrotherapy

Accelerated and Healthy Healing: Increased blood flow facilitates oxygenation and nutrient delivery to healing tissues, supporting the recovery process.

Reduced Swelling: Enhanced circulation through blood vessels and lymphatic channels helps alleviate swelling, a common concern in post-surgery or injury scenarios.

Reduced Scar Tissue: Aiding in healthy healing minimizes the potential for scar tissue formation, contributing to smoother recovery.

Reduced Pain/Improved Mood: The hot/cold experience elevates heart rate, adrenaline, and endorphin release, proven to reduce pain and enhance mood, promoting a more positive rehabilitation experience.

Reduce Chronic Inflammation: Increased blood flow acts as a washout for chronic inflammatory cells, fostering healthy healing of damaged tissue and reducing chronic inflammation.

Detoxifying Power/Immunity Boost: The cold/warm technique stimulates lymphatic circulation, supporting immune function and detoxification, promoting overall health.

Soreness Recovery: Facilitates enhanced recovery from muscle and soft tissue damage due to overtraining or competition.

Rejuvenates Skin: The cold/warm plunge stimulates blood flow, contributing to improved skin health and radiance, particularly beneficial in surgical recovery.
